Fun With Fungi

Lesson Overview

Fungi are neither plant nor animal – they have a kingdom all their own. They grow in leaf litter and on fallen logs and spread underground and up the sides of trees. In this lesson, students learn about fungi and their role in the environment. Take your learners outdoors to collect mushrooms for spore prints, or stay indoors with a mushroom drawing activity.

MS-LS1-4 Use argument based on empirical evidence and scientific reasoning to support an explanation for how characteristic animal behaviors and specialized plant structures affect the probability of successful reproduction of animals and plants respectively.

HS.LS4.1 Communicate scientific information that common ancestry and biological evolution are supported by multiple lines of empirical evidence.
