Soil Inquiry

In this unit, students dig into the earth beneath their feet and learn what makes up soil. They will discover not all soil is the same, but all soil has the same key ingredients: water, air, minerals, and organic material. This unit guides students through sensory observation to understand why soil looks and feels how it does and invites them to explore soil through a schoolyard mapping activity, data analysis, and as an artistic medium!
