Rock Cycle

This unit introduces students to the rock cycle and basic geology with a specific focus on one of the definitive geological features of the Pacific Northwest: the volcanoes of the Cascade Mountains (Yámakisham Yaina). Students will learn about the geologic processes that form igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. They will use peak heights to practice line plots and fractions, explore the stories hidden in the names of prominent rock formations, and learn how rocks are part of our everyday lives.
